Kav-Or
Landmark is delighted to act as a sponsor of American Friends of Kav-Or; an Israeli nonprofit organization dedicated to providing interactive learning, virtual playgrounds, and community involvement for over 120,000 children living in hospitals and separated from family, friends and classmates by their need for around-the-clock care.
In addition to providing crucial support and care, Kav-Or (translation: "Light of Hope") enables children to maintain and further their education during their often lengthy hospital stays. Many of these children come from poor or worn-torn families and have never used a computer before, making their stay in the hospital one of learning, exploration, and inspiration.
In addition, Kav-Or's network of 27 Israeli hospitals treats primarily Arab and Palestinian children, creating an atmosphere of diversity, acceptance and refuge for kids who have never experienced a time of peace and security. As such, Kav-Or hospitals help foster a culture united against war and intolerance and dedicated to providing peaceful interactions between Jewish and Arab children across religious, cultural, and geographic borders. These children and their families are united in a common desire for good health and hope, and Kav-Or plays a crucial role in breaking down these barriers to peace.
In recent years, Kav-Or has been widely recognized for its valuable work in the community. In 2007, Kav-Or founder Dr. Bilha Piamenta received the Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. Kav-Or's site was additionally acknowledged for its presentation and excellence and awarded first prize for Medical Sites in Israel by UNESCO.
To support its award-winning distance learning and virtual playground programs, Kav-Or works with teams of volunteers, teachers, social workers, physicians, the leadership at all hospitals in Israel, as well as the Education, Welfare and Foreign ministries of the Government of Israel.
